Message transportation methods

The message that the user has typed and its possible file attachments are combined, compressed and then encrypted to form one encrypted file. This encrypted file has .ndd –ending and is not executable but needs to be decrypted by EndCryptor on the receiving end.

Upon sending the message the user can either

o   Press the ‘Send’ –button. EndCryptor attaches the encrypted file to a new email created by user’s default email program. EndCryptor places the recipient’s email address in the address field of the email. The created email envelope is shown to the user.

o   Press the ‘Save’ –button. The encrypted file is saved to a default folder. The user sends the file by other means. The encrypted file can easily be accessed from the Sent-box of EndCryptor (by mouse drag and drop or copy).

To be specific EndCryptor uses the MAPI support like e.g. in Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird or Eudora. Microsoft Outlook Express does not have this kind of MAPI.

Upon receiving the message

o   For Outlook users the incoming encrypted file is automatically saved by EndCryptor to a default folder and the user is notified that a new encrypted message has arrived. The user then presses a button to decrypt the received file.

o   For users of other email programs or transportation methods the user has to e.g. double click the received encrypted file in order to invoke EndCryptor or drag and drop the file to EndCryptor.

The users can use different email programs or use web-mail or file transfer services in the web.
